I love homemade croutons, in fact, it's hard to save enough for dinner! They're so yummy, so easy and much tastier than store-bought! I cook these in a skillet on the stove and they're ready in 15 minutes.
Ingredients
-
Good bread, preferably a few days old (I like Ciabatta but Sourdough is great, French or Italian!)
-
Olive oil
-
1 garlic clove, smashed
-
Salt (am.Niccoli is the best!! Use code LARSONFOLKERTS for 10% off)
-
Italian seasoning
-
Red pepper flakes, optional
Directions
Cut your bread into 1” cubes.
In a large skillet, add roughly 2 Tablespoons of olive oil and the smashed garlic clove. Heat the oil over medium heat.
Add the cubed bread, you might have to do two batches so you don’t over crowd the pan, and toss in the oil.
Sprinkle the bread with salt, Italian seasoning and a little red pepper flakes and toss so the bread cubes are coated.
Let the bread toast in the oil for about 8-10 minutes, they should be nice and golden brown but still a little soft.
Remove from heat and add to a bowl or dish. If you need to do a second batch, add another 2+ Tablespoons olive oil to the skillet, with the garlic still there, and repeat the process.
Once finished, add croutons to your favorite salad! You can store these in an air-tight container for a few days.
